SHERMINEH TAKHAR, MS, AFAA
Shermineh Takhar is the co-founder of ORIx, a wellness network that helps women live their best lives by moving their bodies, connecting with others, and enjoying every moment.
Shermineh is a passionate advocate for health equity. She has spent over 15 years working in the nonprofit and public health sector, where she held leadership positions at San Francisco General Hospital. At the hospital, she developed initiatives to increase access to quality healthcare and opened the hospital's first culturally accessible Community Wellness Center. The center offered a variety of programs, all designed to be inclusive and accessible to people of all ages, cultures, races, and health conditions. Shermineh learned from her patients the power of healing through movement and community.
Shermineh's true calling was to help people move their bodies and connect with each other. She became a certified fitness instructor in graduate school, training with the industry's top fitness leaders in Southern California, leading every format of fitness classes offered in the last two decades. She quickly became known for her fun and engaging classes, and her students loved her positive energy and enthusiasm.
As a mother of two, Shermineh was inspired by the resilience of the women in her life, especially during the pandemic. She saw how women were coming together to support each other and create a sense of community. She co-founded ORIx to offer women a unique wellness experience that would help them connect with themselves, each other, and their bodies. ORIx offers classes that are feminine and playful, inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of their fitness level or experience. "This immersive experience is more than just a workout—it's about creating, connecting, and exploring without judgment."
[The meaning of ORIx: The word ‘Ori,’ comes from the Yoruba people in West Africa, and literally means, using your head, referring to one’s spiritual intuition. The “X” is our power—it is our diverse eXperiences, it is our inclusivity, our seXy, feminine energy. The X, is the X factor- how our high vibe community ignites when we are together. ORIx is a movement that evokes a collective energy within us, inspiring us to create meaningful connections and growth.]
